Lead Process Safety Engineer - Offshore

LEAD PROCESS SAFETY ASSURANCE ENGINEER - OFFSHORE required by our client, an international oil and gas operator, to be based in Qatar.

POSITION SCOPE
 
The successful candidate will work as the Lead Design Safety Assurance engineer, reporting directly to the Engineering Manager. 
 
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in all aspects of process safety assurance, within the engineering function and between other Client departments, to ensure that the process related risk is and remains ALARP, throughout the operational life of the facilities.
  • Drive risk related studies and assessments, both in-house and by external consultants. Co-ordinate input and responses from other engineering disciplines and Client departments, including production operations, drilling, marine etc.
  • Play a major part in the evaluation and decision making process, of risk reduction measures, including the use of company economic criteria, where appropriate.
  • Ensure that these activities are in compliance with corporate standards and guidelines
  • Be proactive in the roll out to others in the value and techniques of risk evaluation and process safety, at different levels of background and education
  • Assist in incident investigation and classification
  • Mentor young engineers in the techniques and value of the process safety assurance function  
 
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • Bachelor degree in chemical engineering.
  • Masters degree in health and safety engineering is advantageous but not essential
  • 15+ years experience, extensively in the offshore oil and gas industry
  • Team player
  • Similar position with a medium sized O&G company, or a BU within a major. In either case, significant experience needs to have been gained in an operational support function.
  • Experience gained in more than one global area of operations
  • Exposure to brown field projects and their potential impact on existing platform risk profiles
  • A detailed knowledge of the design and operation of typical offshore oil and gas facilities. Some experience gained with a consultancy or design contractor at a senior level would be useful, though not essential.
  • An in-depth understanding of risk assessment techniques, both qualitative and quantitative, which will complement the use of traditional safety assessment techniques such as Hazop/Hazid, industry standards and good engineering practice, in demonstrating that the risk profile of the AS facilities continues to be 'ALARP'
  • Interest in raising the profile and use of risk based techniques in the field of process safety throughout the Client organisation.
